Local members of provincial opposition parties, including local MPP Jim McDonell, say Kathleen Wynne needs to reach out to Ontarians following a leadership win on the weekend.
McDonell congratulated the incoming Liberal party leader, and suggested she's got a lot of work to do.
"While her predecessor, Dalton McGuinty, presided over the squandering of Ontario's prosperity, Ms. Wynne should focus on job creation and long-term economic health," he said. "This can only be done by addressing the province's deficit and debt burden through wiser and thriftier spending and putting the interests of job seekers and job creators above the interest of immediate political gain."
Brian Lynch, president of the Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry Provincial NDP riding association, said Wynne faces a big challenge to win back public support for the "discredited, arrogant" Liberal government.
Lynch listed a litany of Liberal shortcomings in a news release, from "demonizing the province's teachers" to "inept management of E-Health" and said Wynne should move to get the Ontario legislature back to work.
“The Ontario legislature should be open now and our MPPs should be working to create good jobs, improve public health care, home care, long-term care, and make life more affordable for everyday Ontarians," said Lynch. "It is also important to bring peace and stability in the educational sector and to take a balanced approach to balancing the provincial budget which looks at both revenue and spending."
