Just days after word came down that Maxville is slated to lose its Scotiabank branch, it has been announced a similar decision is being made in Avonmore.
Scotiabank has been a part of both communities for more than 100 years, and like Maxville, residents in Avonmore aren't letting the bank go without a fight.
A new Scotiabank branch is to be built in Casselman and customers will be expected to make the trek to that community to complete transactions.
But residents are fuming, claiming the trips back and forth to Casselman take too much time and waste costly gasoline.
Residents in Avonmore are hosting a townhall meeting Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at North Stormont Place to discuss plans for fighting the branch closure.
In 1991 the community successfully lobbied to keep its post office open when the federal government announced it would close the facility.
