Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell was disappointed to read the latest release from Statistics Canada, which showed 43,000 jobs lost in Ontario’s private sector in the month of January.

"I am very concerned by the incoming premier’s repeated statement that she intends to continue the McGuinty legacy, which includes having an unemployment rate higher than the national average for more than 73 consecutive months," said McDonell.

"McGuinty has also doubled the provincial debt, raised electricity rates to the highest in North America and brought in the highest tax increases in the province’s history."

McDonell trumpeted the Tory's recent release of so-called "white papers" they say contain plans to lead Ontario to greater prosperity.

"The government needs to abandon its failed tax-and-spend policies that have driven the economic engine of Canada into this fiscal ditch," said McDonell. "We owe it to the people of Ontario, including the unemployed and the struggling Ontarians trying to provide for their families, to make our Province prosperous again”.
