They don't call it Family Day weekend for nothing.

It was wall-to-wall moms, dads and children in Lamoureux Park and all over the city on as families headed out to enjoy Storm Realty Winterfest 2013 over the long weekend.

Winterfest chair Jason Mitchell said the attendance record was broken as crowds swelled while the weekend progressed.

"I was hoping for 30,000," he said. "But we hit 32,000-plus."

Mitchell said city staff were counting heads throughout the weekend, and rough estimates were taken to include those who viewed three nights of fireworks.

"We had carspakced in at the boat launch, and the wing and even on the island in Akwesasne," he said, adding other venues in the city had people swarming to activities. "We had 550 at The Port (Theatre) and 1,200 were at the aquatic centre.

"It was awesome."

From activities in Lamoureux Park that included taffy, human bowling and inflatable castles, to free bowling and skating at other attractions in Cornwall, there was a bounty of things to do.

The carnival aincluded fireworks Friday, Saturday and again Sunday evening in Lamoureux, Park. The firework show began with a modest 1,100 in attendance on a blustery Friday evening but grew to five or six times that by Sunday.
