City council is postponing the implementation of a pigeon-control bylaw until after a new property standards committee is created.
The pigeon bylaw, which has become a polarizing issue in the city, was discussed at length during Monday’s city council meeting and council agreed that the new committee should have input on the subject.
But there were some concerns.
“I’m really reluctant to suggest deferral because there are people in the city who are having a major problem with droppings and the health effects,” said Coun. Syd Gardiner.
But Coun. Dupelle said the bylaw currently being considered by the city isn’t tough enough.
“What’s before us doesn’t have enough teeth to deal with what we are looking for,” said Dupelle. “We need to brainstorm together as a committee.”
The new property standards committee is expected to begin meeting soon.
