CORNWALL, Ontario - Last fall when Upper Canada Village launched the new event Pumpkinferno, the team had a feeling that they had developed something special. Festival and Events Ontario confirmed that feeling recently in Mississauga naming Pumpkinferno ‘Ontario’s Best New Event’.
“The Pumpkinferno team exceeded expectations to deliver an event that attracted over 35,000 guests during four weeks in October," said St. Lawrence Parks Commission CEO Darren Dalgleish. "I am certain this new annual event will break records as it evolves and expands each year."
Pumpkinferno is a fall event at Upper Canada Village displaying the artistry of over 5,000 LED-lit, hand-carved pumpkins in over 30 themed artistic installations.
Visitors take a 45-minute walking tour through the exhibits, many inspired by the village itself, but many include an eclectic display of scenes from exotic places and historic ages, forest animals and sea-born creatures, story book heroes, mythical characters, cultural icons and more.
Pumpkinferno was supported with Celebrate Ontario funding and the generous sponsor support from tourism and community partners throughout the region.
Upper Canada Village will open for the 2013 main season May 18.
