CORNWALL, Ontario - A businesman who made a name for himself in the construction industry has passed away.
Lionel Grant, co-founder of Cornwall Gravel and Grant Ready Mix, passed away Monday at his home. He was 82.
Grant and his family have been synonymous with the construction industry in and around Cornwall for years.
In addition to his work in the private sector, Grant was past president of the Cornwall Club, Cornwall Shrine Club and past vice chairman of Shriners Hospitals for Children and Via Rail Board Member.
He is being remembered by his family as a fun-loving personality who not only enjoyed the company of friends over coffee in the morning but also held a special place in his heart for Scottish music.
While his children are still grappling with the emotion of losing a well-respected and devoted family man, Mayor Bob Kilger said he had "the good fortune" to interact with Grant on a number of occasions.
"I was really impressed with his thoughtfulness," said Kilger. "He spent a good deal of time listening before joing a conversation.
"And when he did speak, he always had some heartfelt thoughts on issues.
"Lionel Grant was someone interested in every facet of our community."
Grant's funeral is scheduled for Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Trinity Anglican Church in Cornwall.
