CORNWALL, Ontario – It's scamming season and fraudsters are at it again.
It's scamming season and fraudsters are at it again.
Cornwall police issued a warning that individuals are identifying themselves as government employees to gain access into various residences. These individuals claim they need to confirm your furnace is in compliance with their regulations.
Cornwall police Cst. Daniel Cloutier said there have been several complaints of this nature in the last week.
Police said individuals can be persuasive and sometimes forceful, claiming “it’s the law you need to let us in.”
They recommend if you're pressured to make a big purchase decision or an immediate decision, it's probably not a legitimate deal. Real businesses or charities are willing to provide proper identification or let you think about the transaction.
Police warn residents not to give any information in person, over the telephone or the internet without researching and confirming the company or individual you are dealing with.
