CORNWALL, Ontario - A presentation is taking place Thursday evening to help arm parents and children with knowledge necessary to prevent abuse.
The Children’s Treatment Centre, in co-operation with the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, the Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique de l’Est Ontario and the Upper Canada District School, is planning a presentation to parents and caregivers of children attending kindergarten to Grade 4 in regard to child abuse prevention.
The presentation will be made by Lauren Book and her father, Ron Book.
The Books will speak to the parents and caregivers about how to speak to their children about abuse prevention.
Lauren is a survivor of child abuse. In 2011, as a result of her efforts, the Florida State Legislature mandated a child abuse prevention curriculum in public elementary schools in that state.
Lauren graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary School Education and creative writing; and a master’s degree in Community Psychology and Social Change. She has been recognized for her outstanding contribution in Florida and nationally to education related to sexual abuse prevention.
The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Parkway Inn. Admission is free.
