CORNWALL, Ontario - St. Lawrence College has installed charging stations at all three of its campuses so that those with electric vehicles can fuel up.
The college will unveil the city's third electric vehicle charging station on Thursday. There's a free charging station at the OPG Visitor Centre last year the Best Western Parkway Inn did the same.
The college charging facilities are part of a research project that investigates the electric vehicle charging facilities and other aspects of the industry.
The electric vehicle industry in Ontario is expected to experience an unprecedented growth rate, college officials said. But providers have had to quickly develop independent processes for connecting charging stations to their distribution grid as a response to market demand.
There is therefore no standardized connection, installation and permitting process within the province of Ontario.
The college is investigating the installation processes in several jurisdictions and exploring the option of standardizing the process.
