Firefighters battled a fire at the Olymel bacon plant.
Several fire trucks and an ambulance were on site, as smoke could be seen and firefighters battled a blaze.
Sources indicate that machinery involved in processing the bacon caught on fire. The incident took place around 4:00 p.m. forcing the plant to evacuate the building. Workers huddled under a large white tent.
At 6:40 p.m., only an ambulance and security were still in the gated parking lot. Representatives of Olymel were unable to comment if the evening shift at the 24-hour plant was still in operation. No injuries have been reported.
The bacon processing plant is currently finishing a massive expansion, adding an additional 70,000 square feet. Olymel invested $37 million into the upgrades.
The plant also recently held a job fair to recruit 20 more employees.
This is the second fire at Olymel in 2013.
