CORNWALL, Ontario - There's a new cheese leader on the world stage that brings with it a ton of local flavour.
Glengarry Cheesemaking, in Lancaster, has had one of its submissions take top prize at the annual Global Cheese Awards in Somerset, England.
If there was a Super Bowl for cheese making this would be it - and the local product known as Lankaaster, which was just under two years old at the competition, has been crowned the champion.
The winning cheese producer gets to keep the trophy for the full year, just like the Stanley Cup.
Margaret Peters, owner of Glengarry Cheesemaking, took possession of the trophy last week.
Her cheese was named the overall winner out of dozens of other categories.
More to come.
