SDG Counties council (pictured) ratified a three-year deal with the CUPE Local 1715 Roads Department. Workers were without a contract since March. The overall total of wage and benefit increases is about $166,000.
Council made a unanimous decision to ratify a new collective agreement with CUPE 1715 (Roads Department employees) that ends in March, 2016.
“It’s an agreement that respects the ability of the taxpayers of S, D& G to pay and provides for competitive compensation for our unionized staff,” said Tim Simpson, SDG Counties council CAO.
Simpson said it took several months to finalize the agreement. 30 road workers were without a contract since March.
The increases are 1.75 per cent in 2013, 1.9 per cent in 2014 and 2.0 per cent in 2015. Over the next three years, the total estimated cost for all wage and benefit enhancements is about $166,000.
Workers will receive an extra day of bereavement leave, vision care, tool allowance (for the mechanic), boot allowance and a night shift premium (paid for night shift work in the winter).
