CORNWALL, Ontario - The United Way of SD and G has undergone yet another leadership change just days before its 2013 fundraising campaign is to wrap up.
Danny Aikman, the deputy chief of the Cornwall Community Police Service, was announced as the new chair of the United Way board at Monday night's city council meeting.
Campaign chair Nolan Quinn made the announcement.
"It's a bit of a renewal time for the board," said Aikman in an interview. "We need to take stock of all the good things we do in the community."
Aikman said the United Way board made the request when the chair's position became vacant.
"I happily accepted," said Aikman.
He replaces outgoing chair Michael Paquette.
Paquette was the chair of the board when the agency parted ways with Frank Rockett, who was hired and fired as United Way's executive director this fall.
Rockett's termination took place during the fundraising campaign as well.
The campaign is 70 per cent of the way to its $700,001 goal, which will be completed Friday.
