United Way of SD and G campaign chair Nolan Quinn.
CORNWALL, Ontario - While the United Way of SD and G has officially closed it 2013 fundraising campaign, behind the scenes volunteers are still hard at work scrambling for last-minute dollars.
Nolan Quinn, the campaign chair, said in an interview the agency has edged up to 95 per cent of its $700,001 goal, or about $665,000.
He said calls are being placed this week to what he referred to as "big players" - local families with deep pockets who might be willing to help out.
"There's still a sense of urgency out there," said Quinn, who marked the official end to the campaign last Friday when the charity sat at 92 per cent of its goal.
A pair of events this Friday, including an ugly sweater promotion downtown and a fundraiser at Viscount Alexander Public School, are likely to mark the end of the campaign extension, when Quinn is hopeful the agency will be over the top.
