This image from Jordan O'Reilly appears to show the St. Lawrence River refreezing, and a pair of deer inching their way to the shore.

CORNWALL, Ontario - Witnesses have told Seaway News a pair of deer stuck on the St. Lawrence River have made it back to shore.

Nancy Young, whose photo on the weekend sent off a tidal wave of calls to help the stranded deer east of the city, told Seaway News the animals safely made it back to shore Tuesday afternoon and promptly took off into a nearby apple orchard.

"What a great way to start the new year," she exclaimed. "They made it back safe, and they are on their way."

Jordan O'Reilly messaged Seaway News via Facebook Tuesday morning and told us the river had started to freeze again, which provided access to a patch of ice in the middle of the St. Lawrence that had been home to the two deer for the last couple of days.

He also sent us a picture, which showed the deer inching toward the shore, atop a thin crust of ice that was not on the river Monday.

"The water has frozen and the deer have begun to walk across the ice," said O'Reilly. "Due to the amount of people stopping, they're kinda scared and hesitant to come back to shore, but hopefully this has a happy ending."

Turns out it did.

Funny thing the same people that were calling and crying about these deer's because nobody would rescue them .flooded police lines endangering human life's that maybe needed to get through to the police for real issues ..are the same dummies that prevented them from coming to shore spooking them for hours just so they could see them and get pictures ...want to see wildlife take the time and go out in nature and really see how they live ...before I'm bashed for my name I only hunt with a camera...sort of wonder did all that stood on shore or along side the road think they would come running over just to great them ...
