CORNWALL, Ontario - There are three communities across Ontario who were awarded for constantly addressing water safety guidelines to the community - and Cornwall is one of them.
Cornwall is one of three cities in the province who won the Red Cross Water Safety Public Education Contest.
The city's parks and recreation department won a Red Cross water safety contest for reaching 600 residents with information on lifejackets and personal flotation devices (PFDs), backyard pool safety and safe diving.
On top of their public education initiatives, events like 'Drowning Prevention Day,' a seniors' trade show and theme days at city outdoor pools also made a huge splash.
Along with bragging rights, the city received 30 PFDs, whistles and lanyards.
Red Cross applauded the city for being a longtime supporter of their swim program and actively promoting water safety within the community.
