This is an example of what the outdoor gym in Lamoureux Park could look like.
CORNWALL, Ontario - Representatives from the city and the SD and G Historical Society are expected to meet soon to discuss concerns about the construction of an outdoor exercise area in Lamoureux Park.
The city's waterfront development committee has received correspondence from the historical society outlining concerns about the proximity of a proposed gym to the Cornwall Community Museum.
Guy Menard, vice-chair of the committee, told Seaway News the concerns focus on the historical aspects of the land in question, the proximity of family activities to the museum and a desire to pay so-called "silent respect" to the archaeology of the area.
It should be noted that a splash pad is just a few feet away from the proposed site of the exercise area.
Menard said all parties will meet soon to go over the concerns.
"The next step is to find out about the intensity of the concerns," he said. "We can appreciate they have concerns, but we have a hard time visualizing how we can change the project."
Historical society officials were not available for comment.
A pair of Rotary clubs in Cornwall have volunteered to build the exercise area, at no cost to the city. The city is currently reviewing the request.
