CORNWALL, Ontario - St. Lawrence College (SLC) is steering Cornwall's post-secondary education in a new direction over the next five years.
The college's tri-campus 2014 - 2019 strategic action plan, titled Our Future, was unveiled in Cornwall on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
SLC president Glen Vollebregt said the college's new vision focuses on three pillars: student experience, contemporary learners, and sustainability.
"If you look at our five-year plan we're delivering more than just academics. It's about student life, athletic programs, experiential learning, support programs, and peer tutoring," he said.
Vollebregt did offer some context for their three core strategic directions, but few details were provided on how the college will actually implement their new vision.
To begin with, over the next five years, SLC will work towards providing outstanding campus communities, support services and engagement opportunities for its students.
Improving digital literacy through academics and real-world experience will be a priority in order to remain on the cutting-edge and inspire contemporary learners.
Addressing the final pillar of Our Future, the college will work to ensure their long-term viability by maintaining accountability and reducing environmental impacts.
“For the first time in 10 years, our strategic planning process engaged stakeholders in meaningful conversations about values,” said Vollebregt. “These conversations highlighted the importance of a shared set of values. Together, we developed a five-year strategic plan to help us adapt to the higher education landscape while continuing to meet the needs of our students and communities.”
