CORNWALL, Ontario – The operator of a website in Cornwall has been charged by police.
Jamie Gilcig, 49, was charged by city police early Monday morning with criminal harassment and threats to life.
Police allege a man contacted another 31-year-old individual by way of phone calls and e-mails despite having been warned to the contrary.
On Friday the man also threatened to kill the individual during one of the calls, police allege.
On Monday Gilcig attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on March 20.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Gilcig referred comments to local paralegal Jim Moak.
It’s not the first time he has had dealings with police. Last year Gilcig was escorted from the council chambers at city hall by police after he refused to remove a t-shirt that depicted a likeness of Mayor Bob Kilger.
Gilcig is well known throughout the city by way of his website and activism.
He was nominated to run as the Green Party of Canada candidate in 2010.
“My skill as a candidate is my ability to work with others, not just others who agree with me, or who I agree with,” he was quoted as saying at that time.
