Mark MacDonald

CORNWALL, Ontario - Mark MacDonald has finally made up his mind and intends to campaign this year to become a city councillor again.

MacDonald was a city councillor from 2003 to 2010 but finished about 2,300 votes behind Mayor Bob Kilger when he ran for the top job four years ago.

MacDonald had contemplated running for mayor again, but said his commitment to the Royal Canadian Air Force Association Wing 424 in Cornwall, and its attempts to secure a new lease at the property in Lamoureux Park, would have made it impossible to share his time.

"I wouldn't have been able to do both," he said.

MacDonald said by taking a shot at a council seat again, he hopes to bring a new dynamic to the table.

"Well, the chemical tank issue is so huge, and this council wasn't working as a team," he said. "If you don't have a council that is working towards a common goal you have nothing."

MacDonald filed his nomination papers Monday at city hall.
