Cornwall city hall
CORNWALL, Ontario - City hall had to send out a press release Thursday to clear the air over more work being done near Cornwall's waterfront that had some residents worried about the fate of a popular baseball park.
The city is completing improvements to the storm sewer drain at Legion Park, which is adjacent to a chemical tank project that has raised alarm bells in Cornwall.
Residents leapt to social media Wednesday, suggesting the tank farm work was spilling over into Legion Park.
Not so, said the city.
"As part of the project, a storm sewer drain is being added to the ditch along Bergeron Drive," said a municipal press release. "Improvements will also be made in the area of the parking lot south of the baseball diamonds.
"The work is not associated in any way to the nearby storage tanks site on the Cornwall Harbour."
The work is being completed by Malyon Excavation. It was originally scheduled to be completed last fall, but is being done now to ensure the improvements are complete by the spring and the start of the baseball season.
The present pipe installation work will be complete by the end of the week, and the contractor will then return in May to complete sod restoration.
