CORNWALL, Ontario - A female leadership conference is slated to take place in a couple of months.

The Eastern Ontario Women Leadership Conference, a program created by the local volunteer-led organization Politigal, will help female politicians learn the skills they need to run a successful campaign.

The conference has assembled a panel of elected officials, professional leaders and campaign trainers to share with registrants in the one-day workshop May 3 at Ramada Cornwall.

Among the presenters will be Jennifer Mowbray, a past program trainer with the Canadian Federation of Municipalities and Nancy Peckford, executive director at Equal Voice.

The conference will feature a councillors’ panel with politicians Bernadette Clement, Joyce Gravelle, Katherine Hobbs, Elaine Macdonald, Marianne Wilkinson and Carma Williams who will share stories from the campaign trail about what they found most challenging, rewarding and easiest in their pursuit of a political career.

A long-time champion for more women in public life, Isabel Metcalfe, also a Queen’s Golden Jubilee recipient for her work with Famous 5 Ottawa will be speaking at the conference as well, with the hopes of encouraging women that they should run.
