CORNWALL, Ontario - South Stormont is shining a light for a local teacher in her darkest hours as she fights a rare form of cancer.

Family and friends of Stephanie Grady are asking supporters to join them in a series of events being held in South Stormont as part of the We’re NUT Givin’ Up fundraising campaign on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22.

The 32-year-old teacher has a rare form of cancer known as NUT midline carcinoma, an aggressive disease that has spawned tumours along the centre of her body.

The money raised will help the Grady family as she undergoes experimental treatments at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Mass.

"I have no doubt that this will be a fantastic weekend where we will see our community come together to support the Grady Family," said events co-organizer Jennifer MacIsaac. "There is definitely something for everyone in South Stormont this weekend."

She was overwhelmed by the outpour of community support from the township and surrounding areas. Dozens of volunteers have reached out to ensure the fundrasing weekend event is a success.

"Our organizing committee and large pool of community volunteers look forward to seeing our efforts come to fruition," said MacIsaac.
