CORNWALL, Ontario - A fire in Cornwall's Le Village district shut down a small strip of Marlborough Street as the Cornwall Fire Department investigated the damage to a local business.

Roula's Laundromat, at the corner of Marlborough Street and Montreal Road, was on fire at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 21. Heavy black smoke was coming from around door and window frames.

The Fire Services Department responded with four vehicles from both stations. A total of 10 fire personnel were at the scene. Police and paramedics were dispatched as well.

One woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to smoke inhalation, and there was some smoke damage to the apartments above the laundromat.

Witnesses in the restaurant directly beside Roula's, Napoleon Delicatessen, said the fire didn't last very long. The smell of smoke was thick in the air.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
