CORNWALL, Ontario - A beer lover's paradise is being created next month at Nav Centre in Cornwall.
The Eastern Ontario Festival of Beers is holding a craft beer tasting event May 31 and organizers are planning for as many as 2,000 thirsty patrons to attend.
"This is the first time a large-scale beer tasting event will be held in Cornwall and we're hoping to make it an annual event," said Rob Csernyik, chair of the festival, in a letter to city hall.
City council deemed the event "municipally significant" so that organizers may proceed with applying for a special-occasion permit from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
"By positioning this event as a regional festival, we expect to draw visitors from the entire Cornwall and counties region, as well as visitors from Montreal, New York State and elsewhere in eastern Ontario," continued Csernyik.
Twelve booths offering craft beer samples, as well as five booths offering wine/cider/spirit samples will be included in the festival, not to mention local hot food vendors and artisan food producers.
