CORNWALL, Ontario - With the NHL playoffs in full flight, gamers who want to get their NHL on have an outlet to skate away with some serious hardware.

No, it's not the Stanley Cup, but it's the next best thing for Cornwall NHL fans.

A local group is organizing Hockey Night in Cornwall - a video game spectacle complete with a draft, prizes and plenty of head-to-head NHL action.

Mike Pliss, Calvin Morrow, Adam Lariviere and Joseph Boyer created the event, which will take place May 9 and 10 at Nav Centre in Cornwall.

The premise is pretty simple. Participants will meet on day one to take part in a draft lottery to choose their favourite NHL teams. There will be 30 participants –one for every NHL team - per division which includes children under 13, one-to-one play and doubles.

The next day the action begins, with players sitting at stations decked out just like an average living room to make the experience more authentic.

"We wanted to keep it casual, kind of like a man cave," said Morrow.

The event will also help to raise money for the VIA Foundation, which helps stock food banks to help the needy.

The action will take place on the Xbox 360 platform, via EA Sports NHL 14. Early registrants will receive an extra ballot for the team draft, augmenting their chances of picking their favourite NHL club.

This is awesome, just what Cornwall needs! I would love to see some street fighter personally, but I will be there for this too.
