Secret gigs to be revealed at Lift-Off party

CORNWALL, Ontario – The answer to the burning question in many Cornwallites’ minds ‘what’s the entertainment lineup for this year’s Lift-Off hot air balloon festival?’ will be revealed next week.

The Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off 2014 board of directors will be unveiling the lineup for the festival’s 20th anniversary at an announcement party on Thursday, May 8, from 7 to 11 p.m. at NAV Canada on Montreal Road. The free event is open to the public.

“Without giving anything away…we are having four nights of entertainment, focusing on the park activities, all while being sensitive to the family budget,” said a tightlipped Jason Jesmer, Lift-Off co-chair.

Past Lift-Off performers have included Theory of a Deadman, Marianas Trench, Kim Mitchell, Our Lady Peace, Amanda Marshall, Collective Soul, Dean Brody, and Finger Eleven.

The launch party will feature free appetizers, entertainment by The Lost Boyz, and Cornwall’s Graham Greer, plenty of giveaways (including hot air balloon rides), and those attending the pre-announcement dinner in NAV’s Propeller Restaurant will receive a 10 per cent meal discount.

Lift-Off, the only hot-air balloon festival in Ontario, celebrates a 20-year milestone in 2014. But with the addition of several free summer events in Cornwall over the past few years, the event’s board of directors knows the festival may face some changes to grow with the needs of the community.

“The festival is always evolving,” he said. “The biggest change was adjusting the price to make it family-friendly. More changes will be announced as the weeks pass, but for now our concentration is the balloon attractions and musical lineup.
