CORNWALL,Ontario - Seaway Winds Concert Band is taking its audience From Broadway to Hollywood, this Saturday, in the final concert of its 2013-2014 series.

In a chronological stroll throughout some of the greatest show music of all time, the Seaway Winds will perform instrumental numbers from the stage, including,  Carousel and Les Misérables, as well as the silver screen, with such Disney productions and soundtracks by Ennio Morricone, Michel Legrand and John Williams.

The program begins in the 1940s, right on through to the present, accompanied by a power point presentation of posters and advertising for the particular piece, on a scrim behind the band, as it’s being played,” explained Barb Hunter, director and founder of the group, now in its 14th year.

“We tried to select shows that went from Broadway stage to the Hollywood screen. We are also doing some that have never been on stage such as music from the Disney movies.”

On the heels of her tour-de-force performance in a local production of Les Misérables, Lacie Petrynka, well known in the community for her many musical theatre roles, will be guest vocalist for the evening. She will performing such memorable numbers, from Broadway musicals and Hollywood movies, as Evergreen, Memory and Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, and highlights from West Side Story, plus a special encore, which is being kept a guarded secret.

“I started in 1992, in high school, said Petrynka, now a staple member of the Seaway Valley Theatre Company. That’s when I did my first show and knew that was it. I wanted to be on the stage. That’s when my spark was ignited and I haven’t stopped since.”

Well since then, local theatre goers have enjoyed Petrynka’s performances in iconic roles such as Eva Peron in Evita, Nancy in Oliver, and Rizzo in Grease.

“I seem to get all the raunchy roles they are the fun ones to play.”

Next up, Seaway Winds will be featured this summer in the Arts in the Park concert series, in Lamoureux Park, starting June 25, July 2, 16, and 30. Tickets for From Broadway to Hollywood are $15 and available at Cornwall and Seaway Valley Tourism, 11 Water St. E., at Cornwall Square Administration Office, or at the door the night of the concert.
