CORNWALL, Ontario – The Children’s Treatment Centre’s Bike-A-Thon Plus has expanded into a multi-activity all-day festival with a full lineup of indoor and outdoor fundraising events.

Brendon Wells and his grandson Andrew Wells sit on the red Yamaha V-Star on the left alongside fellow Blue Knights member, Don Petryna and his son Blair.

CTC’s second largest annual fundraiser will take place at St. Lawrence College on Montreal Road on Saturday, May 24. Last year, over $110,000 was raised.

The day will start with a free pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to the participants from 11:00 a.m.

There are 14 ways to participate including a car rally, bike-a-thon, walk-a-thon, Poncho’s Pony Pals activities, ceremonial walk, motorcycle ride, children’s activities (face painting and magic), ceremonial walk, seniors’ walk, family fun run, and Zumba Kids activities.

Registration for all activities except the car rally, takes place at the college.

Brendon Wells, president of the Blue Knights Ontario VII law enforcement motorcycle club, is leading the pack in the Ride For Kids motorcycle ride.

"It's so important to support this event because it deals with abused children and their families," said Wells. "As police officers the bottom line is we serve members of our community and the needs of children are very important to us."

Dozens of bikers will hit the road at 9 a.m. from the college parking lot and travel northeast to Alexandria, north to St. Albert, and then south towards Ingleside, Long Sault, and then east returning to Cornwall for a barbecue.

The ride is expected to last four hours. Each year, it raises close to $3,000.

"Funds collected at the Bike-A-Thon Plus go a great distance in making sure local children and families have the counselling and support they need," he said.
