CORNWALL, Ontario - Before you start digging in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG), contact Ontario One Call (ON1CALL).
The United Counties of SD&G County Administration Building at 26 Pitt Street in Cornwall.
The new partnership between the United Counties of SDG and ON1CALL, a non-profit call centre, provides local residents and contractors doing excavations with one point of contact for all locate requests.
Requests are mandatory for safety reasons and to prevent any damage to underground water and sewer connections, gas pipelines, telephone and cable TV lines, electrical services, fibre optic cables, and streetlighting.
As of June 14, all requests for county-owned underground infrastructure are to be directed to ON1CALL.
To avoid delays, it is imperative that your information request is accurate and detailed.
Excavators are also encouraged to outline the dig area with white paint and provide at least one week’s notice before beginning work.
“The service is simple and will allow the roads department to process requests in a more efficient manner," said Benjamin de Haan, county engineer.
Requests will be processed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-800-400-2255 or self-serve online at www.on1call.com.
