Mayor Bob Kilger

CORNWALL, Ontario - Bob Kilger has made his candidacy official for the looming municipal election.

Kilger, the two-term mayoral incumbent, issued a statement confirming the news, and it appears as though he will campaign on his record.

"During my term our council has seen the creation of the Benson Centre, the successful hospital capital campaign, a major renovation at St. Lawrence College and continuing innovation at the river institute," he said. "These developments all required team work.  I am a committed team player.

"I am proud to have been head of council during this time of transition and I look forward to providing steady and effective leadership for the next four years."

Kilger has also seen some challenges. During this most recent term of council former councillor Leslie O'Shaughnessy resigned in protest over what he felt were too many in-camera meetings, among other things.

Also on Kilger's watch, a controversial chemical tank project was completed on Cornwall's waterfront.

The only other candidate running against Kilger is long-shot Jamie Gilcig.
