CORNWALL, Ontario – If you have an appetite for politics and a free BBQ lunch with musical entertainment, then you should probably mark your calendar for MP Guy Lauzon’s 10th annual constituency picnic on Sunday, August 10.
The Conservative Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MP‘s popular annual event takes place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at his home at 17276 County Road 18 in St. Andrews West.
Lauzon, his wife Frances, and his staff are expecting this year’s picnic to be their largest and most colourful political summer bash yet. Over the years, the crowd has swelled to nearly 400 people.
“Frances and I have really enjoyed opening our backyard to constituents. It is a great chance to catch up with friends in an informal setting,” said Lauzon.
United Counties of SDG Warden Eric Duncan will also be in attendance.
“It’s an informal afternoon at Guy and France’s home that provides constituents a chance to meet their MP and staff,” said Duncan. “We really enjoy the day because it provides another setting for us to meet people besides the constituency office.”
Both local politicians agreed that the event is about family and friends, and not old school politicking.
“It’s not political at all,” said Lauzon. “We love attending many dinners and community events throughout riding, and people are always so welcoming. This is our way of returning the favour.”
Lauzon noted the unfortunate but unavoidable timing of the event coinciding with the last day of the Williamstown Fair.
“This event always falls on the second Sunday of August, and summertime weekends are packed with festivals,” he said.
Musician Smokey Léger is providing the live entertainment. And Lauzon’s wife Frances will be singing a few tunes.
The The family-friendly and alcohol-free event also includes an inflatable bounce house for kids.
