BRIDGE RE-OPENS: Fire department concludes gas leak investigation

CORNWALL, Ontario – The new low-level bridge in Cornwall has re-opened following a gas leak investigation.

Cornwall firefighters were at the scene earlier Wednesday, as well as officials from Union Gas.

A police officer at the scene told Seaway News a building in the area of the toll booths had been evacuated and fire officials, as well as others from the gas company, could be seen walking about the area.

Despite a call from police for motorists to avoid the area, traffic was backed up for a time.

It’s unclear if there was actually a gas leak as there was no smell of natural gas in the immediate area of the Water Street/Brookdale Avenue intersection.
