ELECTION 2014
DAVEY BEDARD – Economic development tops the list of local issues

EDITOR’S NOTE: Seaway News has reached out to all the candidates running for city councillor in Cornwall to answer questions concerning the future of our city. We are running their answers, verbatim, throughout the campaign in this online series, ‘Ask the candidate’.

What do you feel is the top issue a new city council must tackle in the next four years, and how would you go about addressing that issue?

There’s so many things it’s hard to just choose one, but at the end of the day to me it all comes down to Economic Development.Through this creating and using incentive programs to entice and attract new business and people to our beautiful community. In turn, this would create more revenue for our city which then could be used for other social programs, arts and culture, revitalization of certain areas, upgrading the waterfront, etc.

What do you offer, as a city council candidate, that your opponents do not?

We need a council that will work together, put their differences aside and make the right decisions for growth, short  and long term.

What I’m offering is to be a voice for our citizens, to listen and bring forth the issues within our community. This  change has to be a group effort. I’m not here to make empty promises, I’m here to change minds.

What needs to change, or remain the same, at city hall to make Cornwall an even more prosperous community?

In order to move forward and create change, we sometimes have to close doors on things that USED to work, so we can introduce new ways and new ideas….. Change isn’t always easy but in some

circumstances a neccesity and in my opinion, for Cornwall, it’s long overdue.

There is so much potential here for growth and TOGETHER, as community, we can make a difference.
