New details emerge in high-profile fraud case

CORNWALL, Ontario – A local financial planner who also helmed a community-advocacy group will appear in court again later this month.

Gilles Latour, former chair of Team Cornwall, made an appearance in Cornwall court this week, where specifics of the police charges he is facing became clearer.

Latour is accused of defrauding one individual of $36,000 by not directing the funds as he was instructed, according to documents filed at the Cornwall Courthouse.

He is also alleged to have committed a breach of trust by converting $165,000 for a use that was unauthorized by another individual looking to invest the money.

The alleged actions translated into police charges that include fraud over $5,000, theft by conversion, false pretenses and breach of trust, police said in August.

None of the allegations against Latour have been proven in court.

He is scheduled to appear again in court Oct. 28.
