Second person dies in Saturday’s Hwy 401 crash

CORNWALL, Ontario – A 65-year-old Bradford woman died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound near Long Sault, on Saturday afternoon.

Provincial police said Lynda Baynton died after being airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

She was headed westbound in her 2006 Chevrolet HHR at around 2 p.m. when it veered off the roadway hit a median and ended up on its side near the Moulinette Road exit in South Stormont.

Passenger Robert Smart, a 61-year-old Etobicoke man, died at the scene.

The passing lane of the westbound Highway 401 was closed for most of Saturday and reopened that night at 10 p.m.
