CORNWALL, Ontario – Two Ontario residents, including a woman from Summerstown, are facing second-degree murder charges in the death of an Akwesasne man.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police issued a statement Monday confirming the death of David “Tawit” Benson Hopps is a homicide.

Rachel Fenn, 39, of Summerstown, and Philip Baldwin, 31, of Westport, Ont., appeared in court Monday.

Fenn and Baldwin are scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.

Hopps was found dead by police in a residence on Cornwall Island on Sunday at about 1:50 p.m., said the police.

A post-mortem examination on Hopps’ body took place Monday, the statement said.

The Mohawk police, with help from the OPP’s criminal investigation branch, concluded Hopps’ death was caused by foul play.
