Police charges against former River Kings owner dismissed

CORNWALL, Ontario – Bernie Villeneuve, the former owner of the Cornwall River Kings, had a pair of weighty police charges against him dismissed in court last month.

Villeneuve was charged with impaired driving and failing to provide a sample to police when he was pulled over in September of 2013.

Court officials confirmed to Seaway News a judge dismissed both charges against the colourful hockey team owner on Dec. 11.

Villeneuve was pulled over by police in the area of Seventh Street and Brookdale Avenue.

He was the first owner of the Cornwall River Kings, and at one point vowed to camp out in front of city hall, complete with an Elvis costume, to protest what he felt were shortcomings in a lease agreement his team had signed with the municipality.
