CORNWALL, Ontario – A 25-year-old resident of Cornwall has been charged after a cat was found severely injured in a garbage bag inside a dumpster.

The individual, who was not named, faces charges of causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal, wounding and injuring an animal, two counts of abandoning an animal in distress and two counts of failing to provide suitable and adequate food, water, shelter and care.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 10.

The local OSPCA office actually rescued two cats in the incident. Both cats are recovering well and are expected to be released from the veterinary hospital within the next few days.

The incident took place last week.
