Cornwall police lay charges in welfare fraud investigation

CORNWALL, Ontario – A Cornwall woman has been arrested for receiving $8,430 in public assistance benefits she wasn’t entitled to, police say.

According to the Cornwall Community Police Service, Elizabeth Curran is facing a fraud over $5,000 charge for allegedly failing to declare changes in her living arrangements and income to the Ontario Works Resource Centre, between Feb. 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015.

The 58-year-old attended police headquarters to deal with the matter on Wednesday (Dec. 9).

The accused was released to appear in court on January 19.
