CORNWALL, Ontario – A promising new community arts festival will take place this summer in Cornwall.

The Trilli’Arts Festival will take place Aug. 7 to 9 at a variety of venues in and around Cornwall, including the waterfront, Nativite Parish, St. Lawrence College and St. Raphael’s Ruins.

The festival will feature a variety of muses, including theatre, dance, visual arts and music, to name a few.

“This area has yet to be a hot spot and developed…it’s just waiting to explode in the arts,” said Danielle Vaillancourt, the festival’s executive producer, at a city council meeting Monday night.

The plan will be for local and regional artists to display their works and complete performances, while also inviting Cornwall and area artists who left the Seaway City years ago to return for the festival.

City council welcomed the news of the arts festival, and promised to support the initiative as best it could.

“We’ll certainly support you as great cheerleaders,” said Coun. Elaine MacDonald.

There was no request for funding for the arts festival, but councillors suggested in-kind services could be offered – especially when it comes to spreading the word.

“Sign us up in any way,” said Coun. Carilyne Hebert. “I know we can throw our support and some resources through (the information officer) and marketing.

“We know arts is something we need to focus on.”

Specific details concerning the festival, including show/display times have not yet been released.

The festival is expected to include components for families, as well as members of both the English and Francophone communities.
