Cornwall firefighters contain blaze at landfill

By Adam Brazeau
CORNWALL, Ontario – A massive fire raged as heaps of garbage went up in smoke at the Cornwall landfill Saturday.

Firefighters arrived at the city dump on Cornwall Centre Road around 5 p.m.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from several kilometres away.

Paramedics were at the site, but no injuries were reported. The landfill was closed to the public during the incident.

Fire crews left the scene around 9 p.m.

Due to low visibility, the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) had shut down a portion of Vincent Massey Drive west of Power Dam Drive for several hours.
