Charge laid in South Stormont elder abuse case

CORNWALL, Ontario – A 54-year-old staff member at a South Stormont long-term care facility has been charged with assault following allegations of elder abuse.

The SD&G detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded at 8:31 a.m. Wednesday (April 22) to a report of an assault against a resident.

A Cornwall woman was arrested at the scene.

The suspect was taken into police headquarters and charged. She was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Cornwall court on June 2.

The woman’s identity and the name of the long-term care facility were not released to protect the victim.
