Shrek hits the stage this month at Holy Trinity
Meagan Brodie (Princess Fiona) and Ben Pilon (Lord Farquaad) go over some lines in advance of the Holy Trinity production of Shrek.

CORNWALL, Ontario – What was old is new again at Holy Trinity Secondary School, as teachers and students are preparing for the stage production of Shrek.

As many as 80 students are taking part in the play, from actors to set designers and stage hands, that will run from May 21 to 23 at the school.

Drama teacher Jim Malyon and music teacher Andrea De Coeur agreed the experiences they had as students, with similar productions, helped instill a sense of pride and fun for students now.

“All the teacher here did something similar to this when they were students,” said De Coeur.

“We really see the benefit of this,” continued Malyon. “It’s something we all enjoyed.”

Meagan Brodie, who will play Princess Fiona, said jumping into the character was relatively easy.

“It was a lot of fun,” she said. “She’s quirky. She’s out there – and that’s exactly who I am.”

Tickets for the show are available at the school and cost $10. The shows will take place at 7 p.m. each day, with a 1 p.m. matinee added May 23.
