Plowing match primer set for later this month

CORNWALL Ontario – The Super Bowl of agriculture comes to the Cornwall area this summer – but there are still a number of people who are unsure just what the International Plowing Match is all about.

To help with the puzzlement in some circles, The Ontario Plowmen’s Association (OPA) will be holding a pre-match Plowing Day in Ingleside on May 30.

Plowmen from western Ontario will join local plowmen and judges for a Field Plowing Workshop, a full day of plowing demonstrations and preview of the BMO Plowing Competition which will take place at the 2015 Stormont Dundas Glengarry International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) in Finch, Sept. 22-26.

“We will be presenting demonstrations of complete range of plowing styles. Historical plowing techniques will include antique tractor plowing and both walking and sulking plowing,” said Charles Leduc, president of the Ontario Plowmen’s Association.  “Modern conventional plowing and reversible plowing will also be demonstrated.”

Members of the OPA and local organizers of the 2015 IPM will be on site to answer questions about the plowing competition, special events, cultural displays and entertainment at the upcoming International Plowing Match.

Plowing Day begins at 9 a.m. May 30 at David Brown Construction, 14855 Dafoe Road, Ingleside.
