UPDATE: Shooting investigated at McDonald’s in Massena – report

CORNWALL, Ontario – A McDonald’s in nearby Massena, N.Y. was the scene of a shooting investigation Monday afternoon, according to a report.

The Massena Courier-Observer, quoting a supervisor of the restaurant ownership group, said the shooting took place Monday afternoon and police responded in force, closing the McDonald’s for a time.

William R. “Bill” Miller told the newspaper a person suffered a gunshot wound, but strangely no one, including staff and customers, were aware that anything happened.

Police later said the man was shot in the upper back and sustained non-life threatening injuries. Police also said the victim, who is not a resident of Massena, claimed he had been shot at the McDonald’s but later reversed himself.

Police closed the restaurant, located at 324 Main Street, for 90 minutes while looking for clues and evidence.

Police attended the nearby Walmart in Massena, on a report that a suspect vehicle was in the area, but later determined that report to be unfounded.

The victim in the shooting is in hospital and suspects are apparently still at large.
