CORNWALL, Ontario – Patrick Burger’s campaign office is officially open for business.

Close to 50 supporters joined in on an impromptu anti-Stephen Harper sing-along Friday evening at the downtown headquarters of the federal NDP candidate for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, a riding dominated by incumbent Conservative MP Guy Lauzon.

“Why are we here?” Burger asked.

The crowd, crammed inside an office suite at 262 Pitt Street, near Third Street, answered back, “Change.” Responsible government.” “To take our country back.”

“I don’t think any of us would’ve walked through this door if we didn’t believe that we can win the federal election on October 19th, and win this riding,” said the Lunenburg resident and college teacher.

“What happening in the country that’s starting to make this a reality? More and more Canadians are putting their trust in (NDP Leader) Thomas Mulcair. Our momentum is growing from coast-to-coast. It comes down to our policies, and people like what they see. One of the things I want to do as MP for SDSG is make sure that the vision the NDP has, and the values it represents, are put into place in this riding. We’re the party that makes sure no Canadians are left behind.”

Burger discussed the NDP’s pledge to create a national daycare program at $15 per day, supporting long-term care and home care for seniors, and repealing Bill C-51.

After his speech, the entire crowd sang ‘Harperman’ accompanied by keyboards as lyrics were projected on the wall.

SDSG Liberal candidate Bernadette Clement opened her campaign office – directly across the road from Lauzon – on Thursday. Retired school teacher and environmentalist Elaine Kennedy is representing the Green Party.
