Cornwall library reopens used book store
The Cornwall Public Library.

CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Public Library is officially reopening its bookstore this Saturday, with half-price books, free coffee and cookies on the menu that day.

“The store is filled with quality used books for sale and new books from local authors,” the library said in a statement. “There is also coffee for sale and small gift items.”

The store was originally opened when the library moved into its present Second and Sydney streets location in 1996.  It is staffed and operated by library volunteers, many of them from the former Friends of the Library organization which ran the store until last year.

“It has been completely redesigned featuring more floor space to permit access with wheelchairs and scooters and much brighter wall colours giving it a fresh, inviting look,” continued the statement.

The books in the store are mostly donations.

“While restricted space doesn’t allow the library to accept all book donations, it is what keeps the bookstore going. Money collected from the sales is used to help purchase library materials, furniture and equipment and to enhance some of the library’s programs.”

The event runs Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a half-price sale on all books (with the exception of magazines and locally-author books).

The book shop is open daily from 1 to 4 p.m. including Sundays. Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
