Bank robbery results in lockdown of downtown Winchester

WINCHESTER, Ontario – SD&G OPP are searching for a lone suspect after a robbery at the BMO Bank of Montreal in Winchester Friday morning.

Investigators are now examining surveillance footage in an attempt to identify the unknown man who robbed the bank on Main Street West at about 10:03 a.m. Nov. 13.

Police say the suspect told a bank teller that he was armed, resulting in a two-hour lockdown on the village’s downtown area, but no weapon was seen. As a precaution, the local school was put in hold and secure mode.

There were no injuries.

SD&G OPP Const. Tylor Copeland told Seaway News the suspect made off with a small amount of cash.

Police are searching for a man, 5’11”, with a medium build and dark complexion, wearing black pants, and a grey, white, and black (horizontal stripe) sweatshirt, with the hood up, covering a red baseball hat, and black “neck wrap,” pulled up over his face.

The crime unit is investigating the scene. The bank has been closed for the day.
